The "Centro Pubblico Produzione 'Montalto'" (Montalto Centre for Raising Wildlife) was created in the early 1980's from the need to repopulate the surrounding territory with hare yet without having to rely on a market no longer able to guarantee the quality, health and the reproductive abilities of its animals.

A great deal of attention was given to breeding animals capable of surviving and reproducing in the wild, feeding themselves, evading predators and avoiding infection.

The Montalto Centre is a "mixed" breeding farm. After an initial period in cages, the animals are placed in open pens before being released into the wild. This system has yielded optimal results, improved reproductive levels and limited problems of disease.
